What to expect from two-week-long roadtrip in Northern Europe ( Berlin, Rügen, Copenhagen, Ööland, Stockholm). Rain, cold weather, expensive hotel nights and long days in car. But no! It was simply amazing.
We didn't book any hotels beforehand. We didn't use taxes at all. We spend only less than 20 hours in the car.( love german highways and boats in Baltic Sea). And surprisingly, most of the days the temperature was warmer than 30 Celcius degrees.
First target was Berlin, where we got by plane. We stayed at Prenzlauerberg and enjoyed incredible restaurants and parks.I can warmly recommend nice little breakfast restaurant 'Tous les jours" in Hufelandsstrasse. We also drove bikes all around the city hunting good shopping places. One of the highlights was Germany's WM football game at Branderburger Tor, with perhaps millions other. Shame that they didn't win.
Next we headed to Insel Rügen in Baltic Sea. It is Germany's largest island and famous about it's perfect white beaches and cliffs. It was almost too hot with 38 degrees in the shadow. We actually took surfing lessons and it was just great! People in the island don't speak very good english, and we didn't see much foreigners - though many german tourist with weeeeiiird sunbathing habits!
From Rügen we took a boat to Trelleborg (about 130 euros?) and drove 60 kilometers to Copenhagen. We stayed at very small hotel room, looking like ship cabins but the hotel was located perfectly in the center. The nicest place was Nyhavn and King's Palace garden. We tried to find the little mermaid but unfortunately it's in China for this summer!
Ööland was nice and very swedish island with not so many tourists. In the harbor you can find large and luxurious boats and little restaurants. We also saw Swedish King and Queen at their summerplace Solliden.
Our trip ended to Stockholm where we had dinner with my best friend who works there for this summer. It was extremely difficult to get the shiptickets to us and the car but luckily we got the last ones.
